Charles Arthur - Recordings

ingeniously titled:   CHARLES ARTHUR - EP#1

a 5-song EP representing music that Charles plays in a solo setting, and features him on numerous instruments.
Musically hard to pin down, but his usual mix of rockinbluesyjazzysoulful music, all done with his unmistakeable charm.

Blending of mid-century pop, country, and jazz. Catchy stuff. Probably my best work.

The Jethros
Dark Side of the Christmas Tree Vol. I
?
One of the first CD's Charles played on. Hilarious, warped versions of Christmas tunes played on either defective instruments or ones that the musicians didn't know how to play. Charles is credited as 'Chris Anderson' for some reason, but did actually play on such xmas classics as 'Little Bummer Boy' and 'We Be Kings'.  Apparently it got some airplay on Howard Sterns radio show.
www.thejethros.com.  This CD is unfortunately out of print but worth looking for.  In the meantime definitely get a copy of the Jethros 'Love Musix', some of the funniest stuff you'll ever hear.
Tom Kildea
Long Gone
?
Wonderful singer/songwriter who Charles played with in Harrisonburg, VA in early 90's. They, with a fantstic rhythm section, made up the 'Little Grill House Band', named after the funky little joint that still exists and is hightly recommended. The music is rich, Dylan-esque, folky-pop - great stuff. The song 'Bristol' will give you chills.

April
?
More beautiful stuff by Tom and the House band. This one recorded in an old milking barn next to the farmhouse that Tom was living in.

Page Wilson
Bridge of Love
Planetary
Excellent recording of Page Wilson's 'mongrel music' - a spirited mix of country, folk, bluegrass and blues. Recorded "live in the studio" in front of an audience, it really captures the band's true sound. There were actually two nights recorded, but the second was used entirely as the band had more to drink (i.e. in their normal state). Charles on dobro.

Gary Gerloff
Ancestor Worship
Planetary
Upbeat, eclectic, timeless music by the king of good vibes - Gary Gerloff. Stompin' country, jugband, hawaiian, reggae, gospel - it's all here, yet no matter what the style it still sounds like Gary. A great showcase for Charles's range - he plays a pile of instruments on this one.

Dirtball
Turn Up the Barn
Planetary
Alt-country spiced with lots of interesting touches by a group that sadly no longer exists. Actually recorded in an old barn west of Richmond. Charles gets nasty on a couple. Pedal steel, electric guitar, slide guitar and lap steel on several cuts, all recorded with his dog Joey by his side.
