Charles Arthur - Bands/Booking
This page is intended to get you acquainted with
the various musical aggregations that Charles Arthur works with,
and will point you in the right direction should you want to hear or
book any of them. Charles's busy schedule does not always allow
him to play every gig with each group - check the gigs page to see
when and with whom he's playing. Of course, all the bands are great
regardless of whether or not he is present, so if you want to see them check
their website (if they have one) for their schedules.
Charles Arthur - Solo
Charles playing acoustic guitar, instrumentally and with
vocal. An upbeat and sometimes tender repertoire of all sorts of
american music - standards, pop tunes (20's through 60's), country,
early rock 'n roll, old time, blues, jazz, ragtime, etc. This can
be augmented with other instruments - bass, sax, fiddle, mandolin -
just ask. For booking send email to booking@charleskingarthur.com.
the Charles Arthur trio
Charles playing piano and guitar (occasionally at the same
time) playing a mixture of rootsy american music. Think Fats Dominio
meets Ray Charles meets Hank Williams meets Jerry Lee Lewis meets Chuck Berry
meets Ricky Nelson.... get the idea? It's fun stuff that rocks
the house and keeps you smiling at the same time.
Johnny Hott's Piedmont Souprize
One of the best bands you'll ever hear. Features the stellar
vocals of Sara Arthur, the unbelievably great sax and vocals of
Roger Carroll, the best rhythm section ever of Johnny Hott on drums
and Stephen McCarthy on bass, and Charles on guitar. A great repetoire
of standards, country, jazz, blues, rock 'n roll, even the occassional
avante garde sound, all done with a great sense of fun. They are in-demand
for private functions so you need to book well ahead of time.
Roger
Carroll and Chez Roue
Fantastic, hilarious, uniquely talented jazz/swing/roots
band features some of Richimond's finest. Fronted by Roger Carroll
who is the coolest sax player and vocalist on the planet. Also features
the amazingly versatile Brian 'Flyin' Sulzer on bass and vocals, world-class
trumpeter Jonathan Greenberg, mind-blowing piano of Debo Dabney, and
the swinging yet creative drumming of Johnny Hott. Charles is
on guitar and lap steel - feels lucky to be in the band. Wonderful
repetoire of jazz standards, rhythm 'n blues, New Orleans, and americana.
A very busy band - you'll need to book well ahead of time.
Page Wilson and Reckless Abandon
Page Wilson (disk jockey at 88.9 WCVE in Richmond, VA) coined
the term 'Mongrel' music, and it's the perfect description for
his mix of folk, blues, country, and bluegrass. And folks, it is
a BLAST - it can blow the roof off the joint and then melt you with
a beautiful ballad. Their acapella version of 'Amazing Grace'
absolutely wrecks the place. Page is an awesome vocalist, guitarist,
and songwriter, with a repetoire that is in the hundreds. His band,
Reckless Abandon, is beyond description: Billy Lux (doghouse
bass) has a bluegrass pedigree and sings incredible lead and harmony,
Chris Fuller (mandolin) is dazzling, driving, and hilarious with
fantastic vocals, Jim Skelding (fiddle) played for years in Nashville
and is first rate, Jay Gillespie (guitar) is incredibly versatile
and bludgeons his guitar. Charles plays dobro with the group
on average about once a month. They play often at various locals
in Richmond, and play many private functions as well. Their Planetary
release 'Bridge of Love' was recorded live in the studio and is highly
recommended listening. For schedule of performances and booking
go to Page's website, www.pagewilson.com.
